Connecting ChatGPT and Claude
Connect Proof Manager through MCP, review what the assistant can access, and use your restaurant data from a conversation.
Before you begin
You need an active Proof Manager account, the MCP server URL supplied by Proof Manager, and a ChatGPT or Claude plan that supports custom MCP connections. Keep the URL private. The screens below show where it goes; labels may move as ChatGPT and Claude update their settings.
Review what the connection can access
The connector does not replace your Proof Manager permissions. It can expose only the data and tools enabled for your account and subscription. Review the access shown during sign-in, use the correct Proof Manager account, and do not approve a scope you do not recognise.
ChatGPT: open Apps and enable Developer mode
Use ChatGPT on the web. Open Settings, choose Apps, then open Advanced settings and enable Developer mode. ChatGPT labels custom MCP connections as developer features, so read the warning before continuing.
ChatGPT: create the Proof Manager app
Return to Apps and choose Create app. Enter Proof Manager as the name, paste the MCP server URL supplied by Proof Manager, and keep the authentication method shown for that connection. Review the acknowledgement, then choose Create.
ChatGPT: sign in and approve access
When the connection opens the Proof Manager sign-in page, sign in with the account that should be connected. Review the stores, data and tools listed on the authorization screen before you approve access. Never paste your Proof Manager password into the ChatGPT app form.
ChatGPT: confirm and test the connection
Proof Manager should appear in the connected Apps list. Start a new conversation, enable the app if it is not already active, and begin with a read-only request such as: “Summarize yesterday’s sales by store.” Check that the answer names only stores your Proof Manager account can access.
Claude: add a custom connector
Open Claude on the web or in the desktop app. Go to Customize or Settings, open Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Enter Proof Manager as the name, paste the MCP server URL supplied by Proof Manager, then choose Add.
Claude: connect and approve access
Open the new Proof Manager connector and choose Connect. Sign in on the Proof Manager page, select the correct account if you manage more than one, review the requested access, and authorize only the stores and tools you expect to use.
Claude: choose how tool approvals work
After the connector shows Connected, review its tools and permissions. Needs approval is the safer default because Claude asks before it uses a tool. Always allow removes that prompt, while Blocked prevents the connector from using Proof Manager.
Claude: enable the connector and test it
Start a new conversation, open the connectors menu, and enable Proof Manager. Use the same read-only test request and confirm that Claude can see only the expected stores. Approve individual tool calls when Claude asks.
Useful first requests
Try requests that are easy to verify: summarize yesterday’s sales by store; compare refunds across stores; show menu items running low on stock; explain the largest shift exceptions; or prepare a table for a date range. State the store and date range whenever the answer could be ambiguous.
Troubleshooting
If ChatGPT does not show Create app, confirm that Developer mode is enabled and that your plan supports custom MCP apps. If Claude cannot see the connector, reopen Connectors and confirm it is Connected and enabled for the conversation. If sign-in fails, use the account approved for the connection and ask Proof Manager support to confirm the connector URL and access.
Disconnect or change access
Remove or disconnect Proof Manager from the Apps or Connectors settings in the assistant you used. To change stores, tools or account permissions, update them in Proof Manager or reconnect with the correct account. Disconnect access immediately if the connection was added to the wrong workspace.
